Joséphine is a chef-driven modern French wine bar in Charleston’s flourishing Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood. A new breed of wine bar, Joséphine transforms the traditional experience by combining elevated food and approachable wines and cocktails in a relaxed, convivial setting.
At Joséphine Wine Bar, we believe food and wine need each other. QUI EST JOSÉPHINE?
The name “Joséphine” is inspired by Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoleon Bonaparte’s first wife, who is said to have owned the best wine collection of her time. An avid collector, the Empress entertained often with a vast cellar of Grand Crus and wines from around the globe. An inventory taken after her death in 1814 found a predominance of Bordeaux in the 13,286-bottle list, surprising as it was thought to be a lesser wine to Burgundy at the time.
